Mission

The mission of Greenville Public Schools is to provide all students with a quality education that adheres to rigorous and challenging standards so that they will experience success and become productive members of society.

Upon the urging of parents, staff and community members, the Board of Trustees of the Greenville Public School District implemented a uniform dress code for students in the mid 1990's. Research indicated that schools with school uniforms have enhanced school safety, an improved learning environment, reduced tensions, a bridging of socio-economic differences between children, the promotion of good behavior, improved children's self-respect and self-esteem and produced cost savings for participating families. During the 1995-96 school year, the district implemented a student uniform policy for grades K-6. The benefits were evident and schools with greater compliance levels tended to enjoy commensurately better results. Accordingly, the District determined to extend the benefits of the program throughout the district by implementing a mandatory uniform policy for all students (K-12) for the 1996-97 school year.

Students must abide by the Greenville Public School District Uniform Policy with each student wearing the appropriate uniform for his or her base school. PreK-6th graders shall wear the same color uniform consisting of shirts and pants for boys and shirts/blouses and pants/skirts/jumpers for girls.

The following guidelines shall determine dress and grooming: decency, neatness, cleanliness, and suitability for school.

More detailed information about dress code do's and don'ts can be found in the GPSD Student Handbook.

The dress code will be monitored and enforced by the faculty and staff of Greenville Public Schools. Students who violate the dress and grooming rules will be required to change clothes before entering any classroom.

"Free Days" will be granted at the discretion of the principal. Free Day dress will conform to the dress and grooming procedures.
