Mission

The mission of Greenville Public Schools is to provide all students with a quality education that adheres to rigorous and challenging standards so that they will experience success and become productive members of society.

The mission of the PTA is threefold: to support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental agencies and other organizations which make decisions affecting children; to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.

Parents are a child's first teachers. With that important fact front and center, the Greenville Public School District strongly encourages the continued involvement of parents in their children's education, at home and in our schools.

Each of the GPSD's schools has an active Parent Teacher Association open to parents and teachers as well as to others in the school community. Their aim is to foster better relationships between parents and their children's schools and to create a partnership which helps the school to listen to and deal with parents' concerns, and for parents to learn  more about what they can do to help the school and improve their children's education. PTAs can provide an excellent forum for communication and a base for partnership between parents and schools.

Representatives from each of the district's school PTAs join to form a district-wide PTSA Council. The current PTSA president is Jan Vaughn, who represents Coleman Middle School.

You can learn more about getting involved in your child's education and joining the PTA by contacting your youngster's school.
