Mission

The mission of Greenville Public Schools is to provide all students with a quality education that adheres to rigorous and challenging standards so that they will experience success and become productive members of society.

The philosophy of the Leaders in Literacy Program sponsored by the Barksdale Reading Institute and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation is partnership with the Early Childhood Institute at Mississippi State University is that children become readers from first knowing language. The years prior to a child's entry into school are critical to the development of language foundations and rules. This program is based upon the premise that teachers of babies through pre-schoolers have a responsibility to make every day a day where each child is read to, talked to, and conversed with relevant and meaningful ways. The combined efforts of families and teachers who devote time and energy to developing literacy through reading and talking with children will indeed make every child a reader.
