Mission
The mission of Greenville Public Schools is to
provide all students with a quality education that adheres to rigorous and
challenging standards so that they will experience success and become
productive members of society. |
|
 |
In the fall of 2001, Greenville High School
and Weston High School merged to become one, now Greenville-Weston High
School, located on two campus sites. By so doing, the schools joined a
national education reform initiative designed to help all students
perform better in school. It's called First Things First.
|

The federally-funded initiative first implemented in all Kansas City,
Kansas schools differs from other school reform efforts because it
emphasizes raising all students' level of achievement, not just the
performance of those who are performing poorly or those who are doing
well. First Things First accomplishes change by strengthening the
relationships among students and adults and creating small learning
communities intensely focused on improving the quality of teaching and
learning in every classroom. Schools reduce class size and groups of
students stay with the same teachers and staff for longer periods during
the day and for multiple years.
Each campus site consists of small learning communities with
approximately 200 students in each. Students choose an SLC based upon their
academic interests. The following SLC's are offered on the Greenville or the
Weston Campus.
 | Applied Engineering/Trades (Greenville Campus) is designed to
stimulate the students' interest in the ever-changing world of technology
and trade. Hands-on opportunities will be provided for students to pursue
a satisfying career. They will be afforded opportunities to take courses
at the Technical Center in such areas as automotive mechanics, technology
applications/CADD/CAM/PLC/Quality Control and trades. |
 | Business Careers (Greenville Campus) is a community for
students interested in successfully preparing for college and/or pursuing
a career in business. |
 | Law and Criminal Justice (Greenville Campus) is for students
with an interest in legal issues and law enforcement. Its curriculum will
include the basic requirements for college while emphasizing the social
sciences such as history, psychology, and sociology. Students will be
trained to understand leadership roles in government, law enforcement, and
the legal profession. |
 | Math/Science (Greenville Campus) will help students develop and
implement effective communication, mathematical, and scientific skills
through problem-solving research, hands-on activities, and technical
assistance from businesses in the surrounding community. |
 | Performing/Visual Arts (Greenville Campus) is designed for
students interested in fine and graphic arts. It will provide
opportunities for students to pursue and develop expertise in the areas of
drama, music, and dance. The community will provide opportunities for the
performance-minded student to function on a post-secondary level. |
 | Education/Counseling/Human Services (Weston Campus) is
dedicated to preparing students for post-secondary education and to help
them become successful, proficient leaders. Students will receive an
education in the basic curricula requirements with an emphasis on skills
needed in education, counseling, and human services. It's designed for the
students interested in becoming teachers, school administrators, coaches,
counselors, child care providers, social workers, or other related
professionals. |
 | Health Careers (Weston Campus) is designed for students
interested in medicine, nursing, sports medicine, medical technology,
mental health, and related sciences such as biology and chemistry. The
Health Careers Community is committed to providing students with the
academic skills necessary for post-secondary education with exposure in
the fields of health careers. |
 | Media/Technology (Weston Campus) will help students develop and
