The Greenville Public School District provides a balanced curriculum designed to educate all children in the community, from the most gifted to those with special educational needs. Emphasis is placed on basic skills, an opportunity for acceleration and enrichment, and preparation for college entrance and the world of work. The Mississippi Report Card for the 2001-2002 school year shows a GPSD graduation rate of 83.33%. That exceeds the state average of 80.52%.

Our commitment to excellence is demonstrated by: the honors program offered in the elementary schools, the advanced placement courses offered in the high school, the creation of an Elementary Enhancement School with challenge and enrichment curriculum for the district's gifted and underachieving students, the Challenge Curriculum for middle school students, the 127 Carnegie Units offered, which exceeds Mississippi's required 32 units, Compensatory programs, and Special Education services. Each of the district's 11 elementary schools offers a Pre-K program. The GPSD provides computer labs throughout the district and 100% of the district's classrooms are internet accessible.

The Greenville Public School District employs approximately 475 full-time teachers. All are state certified and meet the federal No Child Left Behind standards enacted in 2001. Approximately one-third of the district's educators hold advanced degrees. Seven teachers have earned National Board Certification, which ranks them in the top three percent of educators nationwide. Of the district's 12 counselors, three have earned National Board Certification.

The average student/teacher ratio is 24/1. At the elementary level it is 22/1; at the middle school level, it is 25/1; and at the high school level, it is 23/1.
